Top 5 Apps for Sustainable Living

May 26

Applications on our mobile devices keep us connected, updated, and allow us to learn more about what we are passionate about. If living a more sustainable life is something you are passionate about, these applications will help you on your journey.

1. Grove Collaborative

The Grove Collaborative app lets you shop for better alternatives of your favorite products. Many household cleaners and products contain ingredients that are toxic to wildlife and have the potential to pollute the environment. Plus, many products on the market are not the best for our health, either.

Grove Collaborative lets you search by category to find swaps that are affordable and kinder to the environment.

2. My Little Plastic Footprint

Plastic pollution is a high priority concern for environmental organizations and governments across the world. It is estimated that approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into oceans across the world each day.

One of the ways you can help reduce plastic pollution is by limiting your consumption of plastic products, especially single-use plastics. Single use plastics include cutlery, plastic water bottles, and plastic disposable straws.

My Little Plastic Footprint helps you find out where in your lifestyle you can reduce your plastic use. The app analyzes your plastic consumption habits and the general plastic pollution index of the area you live in. It offers practical ways on how you can help relieve plastic pollution in your area and in your current lifestyle.

The app also recommends sustainable swaps, including reusable products, to help you minimize your plastic consumption.

3. Earth Hero

Earth Hero is dedicated to helping anyone looking to help fight climate change do so in an informed way. Climate change impacts us all, in every corner of the planet. Earth Hero offers a modern way to find out what your carbon footprint is and how you can help.

Once signed up, you will be asked to fill out a survey that estimates your carbon footprint. Next, the app gives you actionable steps that you can do to reduce your personal carbon footprint. Users are easily able to track progress, and the app even sends reminders and helpful tips to follow on your journey.

You can browse from their impressive list of categories to hone in on what actions you would like to work on first. Their categories include Stuff, Home & Work, Energy, Food, Community, and more.

4. Sustainably

Sustainably is an app that allows you to make charitable donations to your favorite environmental organizations, charities, or programs. No fees are charged on your donations, so every cent you donate is guaranteed to reach your chosen charity or organization.

The greatest part about the app is that you can track your donations and read about what your chosen organizations are currently working on. Sustainably partners with a large community of environmental organizations and funds, including the Rainforest Trust UK, Ocean Generation, ClientEarth, and Sumatran Orangutan  Society.

If there are other causes that you care about and wish to donate to, Sustainably also partners with many organizations in the education, health, and poverty sectors.

5. GoodNotes

Whether you’re a student or your work requires you to take copious amounts of notes, you consume a significant amount of paper. GoodNotes is the sustainable, reusable, digital notebook that gives you the freedom to take notes with a clear conscience.

Their features allow you to mark up PDFs and PowerPoints, sign documents, write on lecture slides, or annotate articles. You can even choose from various types of templates to mimic a real sheet of paper, grids, charts, and more.
